Clothing Swap 2011

Last week I hosted my 2nd annual clothing swap, and it was a blast!   Putting together a clothing swap is a great excuse for a midweek lady’s night, and it gives you a deadline to finally clean out your closet to get ready for a new season. WIN WIN! So here’s the scoop…. 1. Pick a date.  Make sure you give your girlfriends plenty of lead time so they can gather all the goods. I’m old school so I sent an Evite   2. Prepare some light finger foods, hor devours, chips and dip… stuff you can pick

Behind closed drawers….

In response to your comments about tips for organizing dresser drawers, I came across these GREAT suggestions from Apartment Therapy.  And to make sure I’m passing along only the best ideas… I tried #2 out myself.  Yes, it’s awesome.  Scroll down to see my before and after! From Apartment Therapy 1. Every few months, take everything out of your drawers and refold them. Let’s face it… there is no way even the most well intentioned organizer is going to keep up with perfect folding daily, so rather than make empty promises – try and commit to doing this once

Closet Envy.

Oh, we’ve all got it. I swear, I would trade my bedroom for a huge walk in closet.  Don’t worry Tony – you can sleep in there with me…. Just don’t touch the shoes, ok?? Let’s take a moment to be “positively” envious. Can you guess who this closet belongs to?  All I want for Christmas… is youuuuu! Love the simplicity here. Decor Pad $100 says this is only 1 of MANY walk-in closets for Nikki Hilton.  NOT FAIR! In Style Elfa

Type A+ Personality

OMG, this is a profession???  Like, you can get PAID (and not made fun of) for doing this??? Check out this great NYTimes article that my friend Nina just sent me. It will either make you jump for joy (me) or think this woman is totally insane (most of you out there). New York Times Article: Organize This! {Ok, where do I sign up?}

This is the last of a series of posts on how to keep your home organized (See previous Part 1 & Part 2) and this one could be a great activity if it snows this weekend! Have a great weekend everyone and stay tuned for some VERY EXCITING HouseFullofPretty news on Monday.  I promise, it will be worth the wait Organization Tip #3 Getting a handle on your clothing. Liberation through Organization, Part 2

Organize Tip #2 Conquering the Bedroom. For a lot of people, the bedroom gets the raw end of the decorating deal, because it’s the one room that your guests are unlikely to see when they come visit.  And it’s really just about what other people think, right??  :) Wrong! Your bedroom should get just as much attention (if not more) since it is the one room in your home that should evoke a sense of calmness and tranquilitiy, or whatever feeling you need to get a good night sleep. So here are 5 easy steps to a more organized bedroom.

Liberation through Organization, Part 1.

Ok people, let’s hear those New Years resolutions!  Or rather, let me guess… Exercise more?  Yeah, I’ve been working on that one since New Years 1999. Read more “smart” books, watch less “dumb” TV. Drink more water! Buy organic. Be more patient with incompetent people at work. Find a hobby and stick to it! Well, unfortunately I can’t provide much assistance with the items mentioned above, as I have tried (and failed) at most of them… however one resolution that I think a lot of people can benefit from, I can help with!  And that is GETTING ORGANIZED! To me, there is nothing

“My Home is so Woodyliscious”

Thanks Beyoncé for your inspiration!  I know you’re reading this So… I love wood. (insert inappropriate remark here). But seriously…. Every time I go to a flea market or tag sale, I am always drawn to their wood pieces, to use for storage.  I think it’s a combination of my love for that worn, aged look, and that fact that each piece is always unique. I love it… For those who have little closet space in their home (insert 99% of you fabulous ladies out there), reclaimed wood boxes and crates are a great way to keep things organized and

New Uses for Old Things

Thank YOU Real Simple magazine, for sooo much inspiration! Each month when I would purchase (er… steal my mom’s) Real Simple magazine, I would go right to the “New Uses for Old Things” section.  It’s amazing.  It’s totally a “der, why didn’t I think of that” moment over and over again, and I couldn’t love it more! Well to my pleasant surprise, one day while perusing Target for much needed household items [a.k.a. cute shirt for an upcoming dinner], I came across an ENTIRE magazine dedicated to the topic.  I just had to have it. amazon.com ($18.45 and worth
