Do you have a room or a space in your home that has unofficially become the command center? You know, that counter/table/chair/basket that seems to collect odds and end from the week? It ironically seems to double as the place you go to first when something is lost, which means it’s helpful if it’s organized. For us, it’s the kitchen counter by the back door. God we have a lot of crap. But even though it’s stuff we use everyday and it’s in a convenient location, it is U-G-L-Y and it was time for a cleanup. While we’re on the topic of little things…I came to the realization the other day that many of my “can’t live without” kitchen items happen to be small and cheapity cheap. Well ain’t that good news for you ’cause I like to share! So here goes my short list, complete with my personal review: *** As a working lady who also likes to make dinner every night, my crock pot is my savior. What can I say, I’m easily pleased! When we first moved in, our trash can sat awkwardly against a wall, no where near the kitchen counter. So it was particularly cold during my time off, which meant I didn’t feel guilty staying in my sweatpants all day and never leaving the house. No judgment friends, I know many of you did the same Well one of the PJ days I decided to devote to organizing the kitchen. One of my biggest pet peeves is not knowing what’s hiding deep in the back of my cabinets, leading me to buy duplicates or even triplicates (is that a word?) of When it comes to your drinking glasses, are you a downward or an upward? This debate has been brought up at many friendly gatherings, and there seems to be a valid argument against both. If you store the glasses upright, then dirt and dust can fall in. But if you store them upside down, then the rim gets dirty. Also, neither option allows for adequate drying after being unloaded from the dishwasher. What ever shall we do??? Bevel Cup is a 2012 Keep reading… I love using old mason jars to store various things around the house, and one of my favorite (and practical) uses is storing my baking ingredients. Not only do the jars keep things like sugar, flour and oats real fresh, but I dig the way they look which means I leave them out on open shelves in our kitchen. Well a few weeks ago my husband, who plays more of a “guest star” role in the kitchen, was cooking and almost mistook the flour for convenctioners sugar. Not an appetizing susbtitute. The reason for the close call is that I don’t Anyone need a TV stand? Because apparently we are now “too cool” to have our TVs anywhere near the floor and have a few to giveaway. Also my husband found this super secret website that sells TV mounts for “wicked” cheap… So of course we need to buy one for every TV in the house. FYI: The website is monoprice.com. Wanna see? Of course you do! Here is the TV area of our bedroom before we got super slick and upgraded to a flat screen. This is also before we had window shades. Hello neighbors!!!
