Room Reveal: Sunroom

With spring technically here (get out of my yard, snow banks!!) we’ve been very busy with updates in the new house, focusing primarily on the sunroom. The room was an addition to the original house, and is located two steps down, right off the kitchen. The previous owners used it as their dining area, and since our kitchen does not currently have a space for a large table, we decided to do the same. We also chose to create a sitting area, since the room gets an incredible amount of sunlight, and we have found ourselves sitting out there on

The Starter and The Burb

The other night Tony and I were talking about all of the places we’ve lived, and I realized that since graduating from college I’ve lived in 7 different houses/apartments. That is 7 moves, 7 USPS mail forwarding forms, 7 commutes to adjust to, 7 new sets of neighbors, 7 weird house noises to get used to. How many places have YOU lived?? Our most recent move was probably the most emotional one I’ve had. When we bought our first house (will refer to now as “The Starter”) it was incredibly exciting. We were still newlyweds, and now first time home

Outside Colors

Now that we’re on an outside makeover roll (see backyard reno and garden posts) we’ve started discussing plans to paint the exterior of the house. Right now we’re just focusing on choosing a color, so I’d love your help!!! Here is our current color. I’d call it boring beige. This shot is probably the most important to consider, as we want to make sure the new color goes with the brick front. The back of the house will be entirely the color of choice. I’ve creepily been scouring the neighborhood for inspirational photos… Yes

Let it Grow

Thank you everyone for your super sweet comments about our backyard renovation! It was our longest and most expensive project to date, and while totally worth it, your comments meant so much! And while we’re on the subject… I’m excited to share with you the latest and greatest addition to the yard. Our new plant and flower garden! But first and foremost… HUGE shout out and thank you goes to my mother-in-law who was hands down the MVP for this project. For those of you who may not know, my husband Tony grew up

Our Backyard Makeover Reveal

Have I foreshadowed this post enough to get you super pumped? Well it’s time! Let’s start back a year ago… Welcome to our backyard jungle. We closed on our house in the dead of winter, so as soon as spring hit, we got a first look at the massive amounts of greenery that made up our yard. The shot above was taken mid spring, and since the house had been vacant for quite some time before we got there, things got a bit unruly back there. As a reminder, our yard was divided into two sections (lower tier/upper tier), separated

Tips for Space Layout

One of my favorite parts about designing a room is figuring out the layout. I love the initial process of taking measurements and figuring out the best use of space for our furniture. Sidenote: I am NOT good at actually taking measurements… I’ve always been a “ball park” or “eye ball it” kinda gal, and that doesn’t usually fly when you’re dealing with layouts. So Tony, the engineer, is usually the captain of that team… but then I get to play! So here is the layout of what was once a guest room/exercise room/office and will eventually be a nursery/office.

Getting our Paint On

Alright, let’s talk paint colors!!! This past weekend we (and by we I really mean T-man) began painting the soon-to-be baby room! Gotta love the doctor rec of avoiding being around toxic paints As I told you in a previous post, we decided to go with a navy blue for the walls, but of course there are about a million shades of navy blue to choose from. Originally I thought I had settled on the Benjamin Moore color Hale Navy. In fact, I was absolutely in love with it. After following my

Holy Snow!

There are many great things about being a home owner, as I often share here on this blog… But there are also times when I really miss being a renter, where many of the “no fun” tasks are miraculously taken care of for you! Case in point: The Blizzard of 2013 Like most of you New Englanders, we got slammed this weekend with a Nor’easter that dumped up to 30″ of snow!!! We were actually away in Maine for most of the storm and so coming home Sunday afternoon was quite a slap in the face. There was no place

Sneak Peak: Backyard Makeover

Winter has definitely meant a lull in our house renovation calendar… a welcome one at that. It’s given us time to relax, recoup, plan, and most importantly, save money for the next projects!!! And the next big project on our agenda is actually about half way done (oh I’m so sneaky) and so I thought I’d catch you up a bit before things move too far. Welcome to our backyard! For the town we live in, we were incredibly lucky to get a large plot of land – much of which is taken up by our backyard. In fact, our

Happy Houseversary!

Happy one year anniversary to our house! I can’t believe it was one year ago today that we closed on our first home. One year (and a lot of sweat, sand paper, early morning trips to Home Depot, beers and frozen dinners, plenty of paint cans, and a ton of internet research and calls to our parents) later, I can honestly say we made one of best decisions of our lives. Yes, there’s always more work to be done, and blog posts to write, but we could not be happier in our home! Special shout out to Redfin‘s
