Updated House Tour Videos!

It’s been a long time coming, but I finally got a chance to take an updated house tour video! Aww yeah, that’s right. It’s take 2, but unlike the movies this one is definitely better than the original! Before jumping in, if you haven’t seen the before videos that I took just days after we closed on the house, check them out first as the before/after effect is what gives this post some meat. Otherwise it’s just pretty poor camera skills (guilty). I still can’t believe we bought a pepto bismol pink and flower wallpaper themed house, but

A Window Story

I have a husband and a father-in-law with some mad skills, and you know what? I’m about to toot their horns. Yeah that’s right… we got new windows man! If you watched my House Tour Video from when we first moved in, you may recall that we had some shnasty looking picture windows. If you love a good amateur YouTube video, full of shaky camera shots with a somewhat annoying girl narrator, you can check out the two minute house tour video here. Or you can just see the before shot below! ********** That film you see is

*Taking submissions now through October 7th* Hey friends… Wanna play a little web version of show and tell? Of course you do! While you don’t need a blog, you will need a Pinterest account to participate, so if you don’t already have one it’s about time you jump on the bandwagon. Not sure what Pinterest is? Well it’s kind of taking over the world (and a lot of my free time), so head over to their beautiful site to get educated, and while you’re there sign up! So the theme for this little show and tell is New

Tool Time

No this is not a reference to Tim Allen’s mid 1990s Home Improvement TV show… But I totally had a JTT blast from the past moment when I wrote it. No this post is all about tools, and let me tell you this girl here has undergone quite a transformation. I went from having ZERO outdoor tools, to being the proud owner of an entire collection of goodies. I love them all dearly, but admit I have a few favorites. C’mon, I’ll show you! Above are what I consider the seasonal “must

Living Room Spotlight!

It’s time to get up close and personal with our living room! Let’s back up a sec to make this as dramatic as possible, k? Remember the before shots??? First came the get down and dirty work, which I shared with you here. But then came the fun stuff… The decorating! I’ve tried to list where everything is from, and you’ll notice that not only am I a crazy Craigslist junkie (don’t judge) but that I don’t believe that decor needs to be expensive. There are incredible finds at Target, TJMaxx, Flea Markets, etc…

Kitchen Mini-Reno

On Monday I told you all about our heat conversion project… Well moving from oil to gas has been quite a process in itself, but it also means some major changes to our kitchen, since gas heat = gas stove! And well you can’t have a new fridge and stove and not update the other appliances, right? It just wouldn’t be fair to them. Let’s start with a look back at the kitchen when we bought the house: Right away we updated the fridge (you can read about the steal we got here) since our

Got gas?

I’m talking about the Natural kind, of course. In my opinion the most annoying utility you gotta pay is the heat bill. Unlike the cable bill where paying = hours of guaranteed Law and Order reruns, with heat not only does it cost a fortune, but during the winter I am still always cold in the house. What gives? When we decided to buy our house, one of the first things on our “must do” list was to address the heating system. The house had an oil burner from 1955, and while the inspector said those bad boys are built

Weekend Warriors

(My apologies if you receive this post twice in your email. Just fixing some things on the site!) It’s not all fun and games here at the Hopf Household… Ok, well for Tony this was the epitome of fun…. Let me explain. We are in the process of switching from oil to gas heat (this process deserves an entire post of it’s own, so stay tuned). And because we have a large basement with great finishing potential, we decided to put the future gas burner in a new location in order to maximize the living space. But mind you there
