I have been thinking about doing another shopping cleanse for a while now, and decided that October would be the month this year. So it was pretty crazy when I went back to my old “The Cleanse” post, and realized that it was last October that the first cleanse happened! Funny coincidence, or is there something about transitioning to fall that just makes you want to clean out?
No matter the reason, it’s time kiddos! So who’s with me this year???
Don’t remember what a cleanse is? Here’s a recap from last year:
The challenge:
Go on a “shopping diet” for the month of October.
The motivation:
Let’s face it. We all have a little bit of “hoarder” in us… Whether it’s shoes, accessories, or home goods, a little break from all things materialistic would do everyone some good. Based on my experience from last year’s cleanse, not only will you notice a huge difference in your credit card bill, but you will be forced to appreciate all of the wonderful things you already own, and gain a little perspective while you’re at it. And don’t worry, you can eat all the chocolate you want. Best diet ever, right???
The oath:
Say it with me now…. “For the entire month of October, I (insert name) will not partake in the purchases of clothing, shoes, accessories, and (eeek) home goods!!!
The fine print:
The cleanse does not include the purchase of:
1. Food
2. Essential household items (no one wants to run out of toilet paper)
3. Necessary items for pets or children
4. Emergency items you can’t account for or control (like impromptu home repair, or your pants rip at work — yeah it can happen)
The request:
So who is with me??? Misery loves company, right??? But seriously, think of this as a challenge, a money saving effort, and an excuse to re-fall in love with you already got! I PROMISE you will feel great when 30 days is up!
