We did it! We’re officially moved in! And I’m back to share the process and convince you that transformations can happen!
*********
I am now a firm believer that it’s so important to be able to look past the current decor when you’re looking at homes because you can drastically change a room without major renovations. But the proof is in the photos…
This photo is what was posted on the house listing and what we saw when we first went to visit.
Despite the really dated furniture, statues, carpeting and well, everything… we made an offer! Because what we focused our attention on was the built-in bookshelves, large windows, and overall great layout and space.
And now for the transformation!
************
Step 1: Marvel at the pink wall-to-wall carpet, walls, trim and curtains, and of course the mirror wall… Then promptly remove!
Step 2: Paint trim and bookshelves, and prep wall for cable cords.
Step 3: Paint walls, and have your father in-law install a new back wall with matching trim.
Step 4: Paint the back wall with an accent color.
Step 5: Mount rack to hang TV and paint interior bookshelves.
Step 6: Bring in the furniture!
Step 7: The fun part… begin decorating!
So yes, you can go from this to this:

How long did this take, you ask? Now keep in mind we had a whole team of incredible helpers here… We closed on 1/13, got to work on 1/14… worked every free minute until 2/2… and the step 6 photo was taken on 2/4. Mind you this was one of 6 rooms we painted and did work on, so if you really commit, I think you could tackle something like this in two weeks (give or take).
If you are diggin the paint colors, here’s what we used:
Wall: Gentle Rain (Behr Premium Paint, Eggshell Sheen)
Accent Wall: Windsor Haze (Behr Premium Paint, Eggshell Sheen)
Trim: Orchid Bloom (Ace Hardware paint)
